What is U Tip?
U Tip, also known as Nail Tip, is a type of pre-bonded, semi-permanent hair extension installed using the hot fusion method. It is usually made from human hair and Italian keratin. The keratin bond at the top of each strand is shaped like the letter “U” and looks similar to a fingernail, which is why it is also called Nail Tip. Each strand weighs about 1 gram. After installation, the bond is secure and discreet. Each strand can move freely in 360 degrees while providing good airflow and a comfortable wearing experience.
How is U Tip installed?
U Tip is usually installed by a professional hairstylist using the hot fusion method. Before installation, the hairstylist evaluates the client’s hair type, hair length, hair color, and desired result. Based on these factors, they plan the number of extension strands, color combination, and placement.
During installation, the hairstylist separates a small section of natural hair and places it inside the groove of the U-shaped keratin bond. The bond is positioned about 0.5–1 cm away from the scalp. A professional heating tool is then used to heat the bond evenly. This softens the keratin, allowing it to bond with the natural hair.
Before the keratin cools, the hairstylist rolls and shapes the bond with their fingers. This creates a small, rounded, and secure connection point. Once the keratin has completely cooled and hardened, the extension strand is firmly attached to the natural hair while remaining flexible and natural in movement.
How is U Tip made?
U Tip is mainly made from human hair and Italian keratin. Before production, workers sort, prepare, and color-match the raw hair according to the order requirements. They then prepare the full bundle based on the required total weight, color blend ratio, and long-hair ratio.
During production, color-matched keratin granules are placed in a special heating device and melted. The keratin is kept warm to maintain a suitable molten state for processing. Workers then separate a small amount of hair from the prepared bundle and use an electronic scale to keep each strand at about 1 g.
Next, the molten keratin is evenly applied around the top of the hair strand. Before the keratin cools, the bond is placed into a special metal mold for U Tip and pressed into shape. Once the keratin has completely cooled and hardened, it forms the U-shaped keratin bond with its distinctive groove.
Key Features of U Tip
- Secure and Long-Lasting
U Tip uses the hot fusion method to bond softened keratin to the natural hair. Once the keratin cools and hardens, the connection becomes stable and secure. It is not easy to loosen during daily activities such as exercise or dancing, making it suitable for people who want long-lasting hair extensions. - Small and Discreet Bonds
U Tip has a small keratin bond. When installed properly, the connection point can be naturally hidden within the hair and is difficult to notice. This creates a realistic and natural-looking result. - 360° Flexible Movement
U Tip is installed strand by strand, allowing each extension strand to move naturally and independently. This reduces restrictions on hair movement. When properly installed, the hair can be styled into ponytails, buns, braids, and other hairstyles. - Breathable and Comfortable
There is space between each extension strand, allowing air to circulate the scalp. Compared with extension methods that cover larger areas, U Tip is less likely to feel heavy or stuffy, making it more comfortable for long-term wear. - Flexible Customization
The strand-by-strand installation method allows hairstylists to control the placement, number, and distribution of the extensions. This makes it possible to add length or volume in specific areas. Different colors can also be combined to create highlights, gradients, or multi-tone blends.
