What is Hand Tied Weft?
Hand Tied Weft is an ultra-thin, fully handmade type of semi-permanent Sew-in Hair Extension. During production, workers weave and secure small sections of human hair by hand onto fine cotton threads. The entire process is completed without machines.
This unique hand-tied process creates a thinner, flatter, and softer weft. It can sit naturally against the scalp and provide an almost invisible, seamless look. Hand Tied Weft is suitable for different hair types, especially fine or thin hair that needs a lightweight and natural-looking result.
How is a Hand Tied Weft installed?
Hand Tied Weft is usually installed by a professional hairstylist. Before customization, the hairstylist evaluates the client’s natural hair type, length, and density. The desired result, such as adding length or volume, is also considered. Based on these factors, the hairstylist plans the installation areas and determines the required weft length and quantity.
Hand-Tied Weft cannot be cut freely, as cutting may cause the weft to loosen or shed. For this reason, the required weft size should be provided to the hair extension factory or brand in advance. The wefts can then be custom-made to the required size.
During installation, the hairstylist creates a stable track based on the client’s hair type and condition. This can be done with microbeads or by braiding the natural hair into cornrows. The Hand-Tied Weft is then sewn onto the track layer by layer using a C-shaped needle and nylon thread, allowing the weft to sit naturally against the scalp.
How is a Hand Tied Weft made?
Hand-Tied Weft is mainly made from human hair and cotton thread. Before production, workers sort, organize, and adjust the color of the raw hair. They also confirm the required Weft Width based on the customer’s specifications.
During production, workers first secure both ends of three or more fine cotton threads. They then take a small amount of hair and weave it through the cotton threads using a specific hand-tying technique. Each small section is wrapped around the threads several times to hold it securely in place.
During the weaving process, about 2.5 cm of Return Hair is left at the root. This helps secure the hair more firmly to the cotton threads and reduces loosening and shedding.
After the entire weft is woven, workers tie small knots at both ends to secure it. The entire process is completed by hand.
